Most students will write one essay (the Common App’s personal statement) that they will send to all of the schools they are applying to. This essay has a word limit of 650 words. That said, some schools, including the University of California schools and the University of Washington, have their own application essay guidelines.
Additionally, most colleges require students to write 1-3 supplemental essays that are specific to their application. We recommend that you research the requirements of each of the schools you are interested in applying to before meeting with your tutor.

We highly recommend that you begin meeting with your tutor at least two months in advance of your first application deadline.

In general we recommend that you meet with a tutor for 8 sessions if you are beginning from a standing start. If you would like assistance with supplemental essays as well, we recommend 12 sessions.

Most of the writing will take place outside of the sessions with your tutor. It is difficult to estimate how much time it will take you to complete your essay, as all students write and process information at a different pace. That said, most winning essays require at least 20 hours of work (in addition to time spent with your tutor in sessions).
