Preparing for AP & IB Courses

  • Portland/Online 2140 Southwest Jefferson Street Portland, OR, 97201 United States (map)

This workshop is designed for students entering grades 9–12 who are enrolled in or planning to take AP or IB coursework. It is most valuable for students who will be taking their first AP or IB course in the coming school year.

What to Expect

AP and IB courses are a meaningful step up in rigor — not just in the amount of material, but in how students are expected to engage with it. The pacing is faster, the expectations for independent reading and synthesis are higher, and the exams require a different kind of preparation than most students have encountered before. Students who walk in knowing what to expect have a real advantage over those who don't.

This workshop prepares students for the demands of advanced coursework before school starts. We cover what AP and IB courses actually require on a week-to-week basis, how to organize notes and reading for a course with a cumulative exam, how to approach free-response questions, and how to build the study habits that make the end-of-year exam feel manageable rather than overwhelming.

Students will leave with a clear sense of what's ahead, a set of strategies to apply from day one, and the confidence that comes from being genuinely prepared.
